Brownie Soup!

Cooking is a form of Science because different foods are used to make a new food! Usually, the element of heat is what creates the new food. Soup is a good example, as it takes foods such as water, vegetables, beans and rice that can all be eaten by themselves but when mixed together and served hot---you get soup!

Here is a recipe for Brownie Soup:

You will need:

can opener
Large spoon
Large pot
Bowls
Ladle
4 cups of broth (low sodium is best)
3 cups of different kinds of vegetables
(Parents: look for a bag of mixed vegetables in the frozen section of the supermarket)
1 cup of beans
½ cup of rice or ½ cup of small noodles

  1. Put the vegetables and one cup of water into the pot. Stir.

  2. Heat until hot, stirring occasionally.

  3. Serve your special Brownie Soup to your family and enjoy.

  4. Don’t forget to clean up your mess!

Remember! An adult must be with you to be sure you are safe when cooking.

Recipe Book

Some foods you like to eat may come from other countries. Have you ever had noodles, tortillas, egg rolls, or quiche? Where did they come from? (Italy, Spain, China and France)

Many foods also were first eaten here. Did you know that American Indians were the first to grow corn, which they called maize?

You can find out more information like this by making a "Troop Recipe Book". Bring in family recipes. Each girl in the troop (or a friend) can share information about her recipe. Where is it from? Who gave it to her? How do you make it? Put the recipes together in a book. Why not try them for a special lunch or supper?
